I typically block out a week of time at a stretch and work from home on my kitchen table. Although I could build a beautiful studio at work, I think it is really important to create in the same way that many of our customers are going to be creating; in make shift spaces. My husband built me a bookshelf on wheels that I can wheel out of my bedroom, pull all my baskets from under my bed and set-up my studio for the week.

All of the Nunn Design Findings are plated in the USA with imported precious metals. Antique Gold plated earrings and ear wires that are plated with imported 24k gold are coated with a water based antique finish and are tumbled to relieve them of excess darkening. Antique Silver-plated earrings and ear wires are plated with imported .999 fine silver and then dipped in a bath of liver of sulfur to darken them. I love to create a story within my work, allowing for the viewer to feel invested emotionally in some way. I currently am loving this moment fashion is having of heavy retro vibes with dreamy filters on film cameras and a sense of “when did this happen? I also love negative space, big skies, pops of bright in a muted setting. Things that feel romantic and playful are also so important to me. In addition to the copper findings, Nunn Design earrings and ear wires are plated in the USA with imported nickel-free precious metals. The only step that is different in the Nickel-free plating process is within Step #4. After the initial plate of copper that is placed on the pewter and brass findings to seal the metals, the findings are “flashed” in a second lead-free acid copper tank. This “flash” layer of copper plating is what allows the precious metals to adhere to the finding’s surface. Earrings and ear wires are then plated using imported 24k gold and .999 fine silver.

Nickel-free plating is far more expensive due to the intensive steps that it takes to plate with the two layers of copper. The second “flash” of copper is very delicate and the person plating must be very sensitive to the precision timing that it takes to get the nickel-free plating just right. The 95.75% of tin that makes up NL7 pewter is mined and imported from Peru.
